Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini will contest the Assembly elections from Ladwa in Kurukshetra district, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Mohan Lal Badoli said on Friday.
The saffron party is expected to release its first list of candidates for the assembly elections by Sunday.
Voting for the 90-member Haryana Assembly is to be held on October 1. Counting of votes will take place on October 4.
While speaking to media in Delhi, Badoli said, “CM sahab will contest from Ladwa (the CM will contest from Ladwa).”
Saini, who represented the Karnal seat in the Haryana Assembly, was an MP from Kurukshetra between 2019 and 2024.
The Ladwa assembly seat is currently occupied by Congress leader Meva Singh.
The BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) met in the national capital on Thursday to finalise the party’s candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections. The ruling party is hoping to win for the third consecutive time in Haryana.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda were among the CEC members who deliberated on the probable list of party candidates for the state elections.
Badoli, MLA from Rai in Sonipat, also said that he will not contest the elections.
He said the first list of candidates is expected to be released soon after another round of meetings.
Badoli said that there has been no discussion about alliance. He said that BJP will form the government with a clear majority.
In the last assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party and formed a government after forming an alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party. However, the BJP-JJP alliance broke just before the Lok Sabha elections this year.
After the BJP’s core group meeting, senior party leader and former Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that the party’s state team has apprised the central team of the political scenario of the state.
He said, “Our party is a democratic party… now the Central Election Committee will take the final decision (on probable candidates for the Assembly elections).”
