Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana suffered a setback when three independent MLAs withdrew their support, reducing the Naib Singh Saini government to a minority in the assembly.
Voting for the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana will be held in a single phase on May 25 to elect 10 MPs. In 2019, BJP won all 10 seats.

- Three independent MLAs – Sombir Sangwan (Dadri), Randhir Singh Golen (Pundri), and Dharampal Gondar (Nilokheri) – have announced that they will support the Congress and have withdrawn their support to the BJP.
- In the 90-member House, the BJP government is now two short of the halfway mark of 45. The saffron party and allies currently have 43 MLAs in Haryana.

- However, BJP claimed that some MLAs of Jannayak Janta Party have indicated their support to it and he is safe. According to BJP, it has the support of 4-5 JJP MLAs.
- Meanwhile, JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala said Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda should start the process of “bringing down the government that has lost the trust of the people”. He also said that Hooda should immediately meet the Governor and apprise him of the situation.
- Hooda said that there is a wave in favor of Congress in the entire country including Haryana and independent MLAs have taken this decision respecting the sentiments of the people.

- There are 40 BJP MLAs, 30 Congress and 10 JJP MLAs in the House.
- Due to anti-defection law, JJP MLAs have not announced their support.
- The Saini-led BJP government in Haryana had won the trust vote by voice vote in the House after he was sworn in as the new Chief Minister replacing Manohar Lal Khattar on March 13.
Lok Sabha elections 2024: AAP’s Haryana co-in-charge, others join BJP
- Khattar, who was contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Karnal, had resigned from the post of MLA from Karnal.
- Former Haryana minister Ranjit Singh Chautala had also resigned from the post of MLA in March. He was an independent MLA from Rania constituency and resigned on March 24 after joining the BJP, which has announced his candidature for the Hisar Lok Sabha seat.
