Haryana News: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Congress MLA from Sonipat Surendra Panwar in the illegal mining case. Panwar’s arrest comes two days after the central agency raided the premises of Congress MLA from Mahendragarh Rao Dan Singh.
According to the report, Panwar works in mining in Haryana and Rajasthan. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team had visited his house on July 20 and questioned his son as well.
The money laundering case stems from multiple FIRs registered by the Haryana Police to probe alleged illegal mining of boulders, gravel and sand in Yamunanagar and adjoining districts even after the lease period had expired and court orders.
The agency had in January raided Panwar’s house in Sector 15 in Sonipat and several other locations linked to former Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Dilbag Singh. After the search, Rs 5 crore in cash, foreign weapons and 300 cartridges were recovered. Later, the ED arrested him in a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case related to illegal mining.
The former MLA was arrested by ED Assistant Director Anand Kumar Pandey under Section 19 of the PMLA, the official said.
According to reports, documents indicating alleged money laundering were recovered from Panwar’s residence, following which he was taken into custody.
