Regarding The Buckingham Murders and the emphasis on box office numbers, director Hansal Mehta says that the collection “doesn’t necessarily tell the whole picture”.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is not happy with the box office-centric talk surrounding his recently released thriller, The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead role. “My time and effort is ultimately nobody’s business. Also, it is the producers who have invested money in the project, and yet people talk about it as if it is their money,” says the 56-year-old. “The problem lies in the fact that people People don’t watch the film for what it does for them, or for its story and characters. They are so interested in numbers that it has become meaningless.”

Mehta emphasizes that box-office collections are only a part and “do not necessarily represent the complete picture”. “When we launched the trailer of our film, Ekta (Kapoor, co-producer) had mentioned how numbers and profits are two different things. The film has been profitable from day one,” the filmmaker added, adding, “We have to give some time to the audience so that the word spreads. But people write obituaries for a movie over the weekend.
He clarified that the source of the box office collection is not correct. “Whatever figures were quoted were wrong. Two versions of the film were released in Hinglish and Hindi. However, only one variant number was reported,” he concludes.
