An airport in South-Western Haiti is ready to get international flights for the first time, officials said on Wednesday, adding a safe option for commercial airlines that have stopped all flights to the main airport in Port-e-Prince, where the gang violence persists.

Antony Simon Airport in the coastal city of Les Kyes, named a hiratian president, who led a rebellion in the early 1900s, operated for about two decades before the renewal begins in 2013 to expand his runway to expand his runway.

This is now Haiti’s third international airport, a development that is expected to promote the local economy and provide a new way to some non -profit institutions that is to distribute the necessary assistance.

“This is really exciting,” said Wynn Walent, the executive director of Haiti, locally in Colorado, which operates in the south-west of Haiti. “For understandable reasons, people focus on challenges in port-and-products, but there is so much that can be done in the south. This can be a big step in that direction. ,

Huga Epil, the regional director of Mercy Corps for Latin America and Caribbean, celebrated the new runway, saying that it is possible that more organizations will make their teams the basis in Les Caes rather than Port-A-Prince.

“Most of the requirements are in the southern peninsula,” he said. “For us, it will be helpful.”

Leslie Voltaire, President of Haiti’s transitional prime minister’s council, on Wednesday traveled to Les Kyes to unveil the renovated airport, saying that it would help develop areas including tourism.

“The infrastructure is the basis of economic development of a country,” he said.

Most people travel to Haiti land at the international airport in the northern coastal city of Cap-Hatian, then travel to the capital by land or helicopter.

The Tusant Luvter International Airport remains open in Port-A-Prince, but in November, commercial flights have been stopped since the fire in gangs in three aircrafts, causing a flight attendant slightly injured.

The US Federal Aviation Administration banned US flights in Haiti’s capital until 12 March.

It was not immediately clear whether American commercial flights would use the redevelopment airport, nor have any international flights land on the extended runway in Les Cays so far.

Local media reported that Les Kyes arrived to inspect the technician runway of US airline Jetb. However, a spokesperson of the company told Associated Press that Jetbo has no record of traveling to inspect the runway, and it has decided to suspend all flights to Haiti through at least 11 June “due to the ongoing citizen unrest.”

The country’s director, for action against Martine Villainuway, Hunger, celebrated the renovated airport, but noted that it was too late for his organization.

Action against Hunger was recently targeted by USAID Cuts and forced to end a nutrition and feeding program, which served Hati’s rural northeast and 13,000 people in the northeast and south. Now, the organization focuses on helping people in the Port-e-Prince and the Central Artibonite region.

“We are trapped in Port-e-Prince,” he said. “It is very difficult to go in and out.”

The gang controls all the main roads leading to the north and south of the country with 85% of the capital.
