GST 2.0: The government has reduced the GST rate on Motor Vehicle Parts to 18 % for every HS code. This will make the repair of trains affordable and the service center bill will also be reduced. The new rules will be applicable from September 22, 2025.

Till now, two tax rates (18% and 28%) were applicable to the components used in trains. Now everyone has been put in the same slab (18 percent). This means low bill for consumers. For example, a brake pad set which used to cost 2,000 rupees with GST earlier, can now come around Rs 1,850. Similarly, there will be savings on batteries or AC parts. This change will encourage train owners for regular maintenance.
Experts believe that this step will promote Make in India and domestic auto industry. Companies will be helped in production and inventory management and the prices of parts will be stable. The train owners will now be able to repair at a low cost.
