Bollywood actor Govinda made a political comeback on Thursday after joining Shiv Sena in the presence of Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde in Mumbai. The actor had earlier won the election on a Congress ticket from Virar constituency by defeating Ram Naik.
The Raja Babu fame actor made his political debut in 2004. During that time, he emerged as a “giant killer” after defeating veteran BJP leader Ram Naik from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat on a Congress party ticket. The 60-year-old actor was welcomed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, saying he was a popular figure among all sections of the society.
He commented, “I am back (in politics) after 14 years of long ‘vanvas’ (exile).” Govinda said that if given a chance, he would work in the field of art and culture, Govinda said this at the event where he officially joined Shiv Sena.
Lauding the work done by the Central government under the leadership of PM Modi, Govinda, fondly called Chi Chi, said, “We have seen the same level of progress here (in Maharashtra) in the last 2 years, as we Have seen in the country.” Last 10 years. We will focus on beautification of the state and development of art and culture.”
He began his acting career in the 1980s, saying that after his first stint in politics from 2004 to 2009, he never thought he would return to the same field again. He said, since Shinde became the Chief Minister, Mumbai is looking more beautiful and developed.

On being officially inducted into the party by Eknath Shinde, Govinda said, “I am joining Shiv Sena and it is a blessing from God. I had thought that I would not enter politics again.” Govinda’s parents had good relations with Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.
Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora welcomed Govinda to the party, saying he had known the veteran Bollywood actor for almost 25 years. Recalling the 2004 elections, Deora said that he and Govinda had contested the elections together.
“I have known Govinda for almost 25 years. In 2004, we both contested elections together. My late father had brought him to Congress. Milind Deora on Thursday said he is a man with a pure heart and he wants to represent the creative industry and the country’s cultural capital Mumbai.
