The State Education NITI Aayog has recommended a policy of two languages in school education, with a medium of instructions up to Kannada or mother tongue class 5.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Friday that the state government is working on developing the “Karnataka-specific” education policy focused on the overall development of the youth. A commission formed for this purpose has recommended a policy of two languages in school education, as a medium of instructions up to class 5 with Kannada or mother tongue, PTI said.
“Recently, under the chairmanship of the State Education NITI Aayog, Professor Sukhadeo Thorat, presented his report. For the first time, steps are being taken to frame a comprehensive, Karnataka-specific education policy, giving rise to the overall development of our youth,” Siddaramaiah said.
The Commission presented its report to Siddaramaiah on 8 August. Formed in October 2023, it followed the Congress’s election vow to change the National Education Policy (NEP) implemented by the BJP -led Center.
Siddaramaiah said that this year, the government is setting up 500 Karnataka Public School (KPS), which has a budget of Rs 2,500 crore.
“We are providing nutritious food to 53 lakh children, ragi malt, milk, eggs or bananas, and a hot lunch during all schools.
During his address at the 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Chief Minister said that the government is increasing first -class colleges and polytechnics in the state and establishing 13 new technical education institutions.
Emphasizing that skill training and employment opportunities for the youth are a top priority for their government, CM said that under the initiative “My Career, My Choice,” Vocational Guidance Programs are being implemented for students of grade 8 to 12 in 150 government schools, who are benefiting 35,000 students so far.
He said, “It will be extended to train 2.3 lakh students. We are strengthening and expanding the Government Tool Room and Training Center (GTTCS) and Multi Skill Development Center (MSDCs) to convert to our state and our youth to convert to pride for our state and our youth.
