American singer Mary Milben on Friday criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Milben urged the Congress leader to, instead, resume his ‘I Hate India Tour’.
Milben, who has earlier praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition (LOP) in the Lok Sabha, lacks the ‘skills’ to become a prime minister.
The singer’s comments come a day after Rahul Gandhi, in a post on Twitter, claimed that PM Modi is “scared of Trump”. Gandhi alleged that the Prime Minister allowed Trump to announce that India would stop buying Russian oil, continued sending congratulatory messages despite repeated criticism and did not contradict the US President on Operation Sindoor.
Gandhi’s comments come hours after President Trump claimed that PM Modi had assured him that New Delhi would stop buying Russian oil, months after the US imposed punitive tariffs on India on these imports.
“PM Modi is scared of Trump. 1. Allowed Trump to take a decision and announce that India will not buy Russian oil. 2. Kept sending congratulatory messages despite repeated criticism. 3. Canceled the Finance Minister’s visit to the US. 4. Left Sharm el-Sheikh. 5. Didn’t contradict him on Operation Sindoor,” Gandhi said in a post on X.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s post, the American singer said, “You are wrong, Rahul Gandhi. PM Narendra Modi is not afraid of President Trump,” she wrote in the post, adding that PM Narendra Modi understands the long game and his diplomacy with the US is strategic.
The post read, “Just as POTUS will always put America’s interests first, PM Modi will also do what is best for India. And I appreciate that. That’s what heads of state do.”
Milben also said that PM Modi and President Trump say “what is best for their country”, which she does not expect Gandhi to understand.
The singer said, “I don’t expect you to understand this type of leadership because you don’t have the skills to be the Prime Minister of India. It’s best to get back to your “I Hate India” tour, which has only one audience – you.”

Actor and cultural ambassador Milben met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2023 when he was on a state visit to the United States. After this he sang the national anthem at the Ronald Reagan Building and touched the feet of PM Modi and took his blessings.

Gandhi, the Congress MP from Rae Bareli, has repeatedly hit out at PM Modi for allowing President Trump to ‘dictate terms’ amid exchange of congratulatory messages and calls, despite being snubbed.
India on Thursday, October 16 rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that PM Modi has agreed to stop buying oil from Russia. The government said the claim is false.
