Gastroenterologists have highlighted that daily soda consumption over the years can cause serious liver issues including fatty liver disease in young adults.
Soda has become a head in many people’s diets, from office lunch to late night snacks. It seems like a small bhog that it can quietly affect your liver health over time. Gastroenterologist Vivian Asamoa explained in his September 3 Instagram post, how consuming just one soda a day can cause advanced fatty liver disease in people under 30 years of age. Can only 1 soda harm your liver in a day
“Even just one Chinese-sweet soda can quietly set the platform for severe liver damage over time. As a GI doctor, I have seen many youths, otherwise healthy people walk in my office, who were shocked to hear the word ‘fatty liver disease,” Vivian says.
She says, “The most difficult part? The liver often does not indicate early warnings. The damage can already last until you notice symptoms.”
Citing a study published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology, Dr. Vivian said that only 5-7 years of daily soda consumption can push towards your liver:
– Fatty liver disease (MASLD)
– Liver scarring (fibrosis)
-The and long -term damage
How to protect your liver
She says, “And many people here don’t realize: fatty liver is not just an ‘old man’s’ problem. I have diagnosed it in people in the 20 and 30s,” she says. Dr. Vivian has also mentioned that the FDA has recently approved a GLP -1 drug for MADL, with moderate to advanced fibrosis, a significant step further, but it emphasizes that prevention is important.
“Good news? Small swaps make a big difference. Choosing water, sparkling water, or without tea is not just cutting sugar instead of soda, it is protecting your liver, your energy and your long -term health,” she advises.
