Apply a small amount of the product to a different part of your skin, such as behind the ear or the inside of your wrist, and wait at least 48 hours to see if there is any adverse reaction. This simple step can help you avoid potential flare-ups and irritation.
- Choose a gentle cleanser: Choose a mild, fragrance-free cleanser specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Use gentle ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid that effectively cleanse without stripping the skin’s natural oils. Avoid harsh cleansers with sulfates, alcohol, or fragrances, as these can increase sensitivity and cause irritation.
- Moisturize regularly: Hydration is a must for sensitive skin. Choose a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic moisturizer that contains soothing ingredients like ceramides, shea butter or colloidal oatmeal. Moisturizing regularly helps strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, prevent moisture loss and reduce the risk of irritation.
- Sun protection: Protecting sensitive skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays is important to prevent redness, inflammation and premature aging. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day, even on cloudy days. Choose mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are less likely to cause irritation than chemical sunscreens.
- Avoid harsh exfoliation: While exfoliation is beneficial for removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover, people with sensitive skin should be cautious about exfoliation. Instead of harsh scrubs or chemical exfoliants, opt for gentle exfoliating products with ingredients like fruit enzymes or jojoba beads. Exfoliate once or twice a week to prevent over-exfoliation and irritation.

She also suggests some essential tips for managing sensitive skin –
1. Use a gentle cleanser: Make sure you choose mild, fragrance-free cleansers that are specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Avoid using harsh ingredients like sulfates, alcohol, and fragrances, which can strip the skin of its natural oils and cause irritation.
2. Lukewarm water: Use warm water instead of hot water to wash your face, as hot water can increase sensitivity by removing moisture. Lukewarm water helps cleanse the skin without causing irritation.
3. Pat dry instead of rubbing: After cleansing, gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel rather than rubbing it vigorously. Rubbing the skin can make sensitive skin worse and cause redness and inflammation.
4. Moisturise regularly: Keep your skin moisturized with a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturizer that’s suitable for sensitive skin. Choose a moisturizer with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides, which help lock in moisture and strengthen the skin barrier.
5. Sun protection: Make sure you apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day, even on cloudy days, to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Choose sunscreens that are specifically designed for sensitive skin and are free of harsh chemicals and fragrances.
