Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the ruling Biju Janata Dal led by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, saying that for the first time a double engine government is going to be formed in a non-BJP ruled state.
While seeking votes for BJP candidate Sambit Patra from Puri Lok Sabha seat, he said, “The same voice is coming from every house – for the first time double engine government in Odisha. A double engine government is going to be formed in Odisha…) Today the whole of Odisha is thinking that they have given 25 years to the BJD government but what did they get in these years?…”
PM Modi said, “Today voting is going on for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Voters are coming to the polling stations in large numbers to cast their votes. I appeal to the voters, and especially the first-time voters, to exercise their franchise. I urge you to experiment.”
PM Modi was speaking at a public meeting in Dhenkanal, Odisha.
Appealing to people to come out and exercise their franchise, PM Modi said, “Those who doubt whether I should go out and vote amid the (scorching) heat… In this gathering, I am a Seeing the wheel-chair youth become an even bigger inspiration.
“‘I have come from Gujarat, from the land of Somnath to pay respect to the land of Jagannath’… PM Modi added.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi held a road show in the holy city. Sambit Patra was also with him.
The Prime Minister is on a one-day visit to Odisha and West Bengal on Monday.
Later he is scheduled to hold another public meeting in Cuttack in Odisha and Tamluk and Jhargram in West Bengal.
Voting for the fifth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024 began on Monday morning in 49 parliamentary constituencies across six states and two Union Territories (UTs) amid tight security and order.
Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. Counting of votes is to take place on June 4.
The Narendra Modi-led BJP is trying to come to power for the third time, while the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party aims to regain power by stopping the juggernaut.
