Five Bangladeshi students at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silker have been suspended for their participation in the fight with senior students of Bangladesh in the campus. Students of the third year were also found in the possession of illegal medicines.
Professor Dilip Kumar Badaya, director of NIT Silker, confirmed that the incident took place on the night of 8 September. In an investigation by the disciplinary committee of the institute, the students were found guilty.
As a result, the committee has suspended students from classes for two semesters, from July to December and from January to June, is immediately effective according to Professor Badya.
The students have also been removed from the hostel residence. The director said that the discovery of illegal drugs has further increased concerns.
The students are sk shahriar ahmed akash, shimantor ghosh, saumyajit paul, sazzad hossain rafi, and md nur hossain.
He said, “We have enough evidence showing their participation in violence. They are not allowed to continue their studies here and they should leave the institute.”
Officials of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), who gave scholarships to these students, visited the campus to talk with them.
The suspension order has been sent to Cachar Police, Guwahati office of ICCR and other officers. Students have also been removed from their hostel residence. According to the director, the discovery of illegal drugs has raised concerns.

Earlier this year, an assistant professor at NIT Silker was suspended after a first -year student accused of sexual harassment. A student of the Electrical Engineering Department alleged that Professor Koteshwar Raju Dhanukonda molested his chamber on 20 March. He claimed that he had invited him to discuss his educational performance and, improperly touched him on the pretext of questioning his low points. Raju had to face similar allegations earlier. In 2021, another student accused him of sexual harassment, but a local court left him due to lack of evidence and absence of the complainant during the proceedings.
