Mala Sinha was born on 11 November 1936 in Kolkata in a Christian Nepali family. His family was originally from West Bengal, but settled in Nepal after partition. Mala was fond of acting since childhood. She started her career with Bengali films after studies, but her real dream was to become a lead actress in Hindi cinema, to fulfill which she came to Mumbai with her daughter.
Mala had to struggle a lot in the initial days of coming to Mumbai. Many producers and directors rejected her and many even made fun of her looks, which Mala had mentioned in an interview. According to her interview, a producer openly said that her nose was bad and she could not become a heroine. Hearing this, she was very sad and even cried, but she did not give up. He continued giving auditions and changed everyone’s perspective with his hard work.
Made debut with ‘Badshah’
Mala’s first Hindi film was ‘Badshah’ (1954), but this film was not very successful. He got his real recognition from the 1959 film ‘Dhool Ka Phool’. This film made him a star overnight. After this, the story of Mala Sinha’s career was like that of a shining star. He worked in many superhit films like ‘Pyaasa’, ‘Geet’, ‘Himalaya Ki God Mein’, ‘Aankhen’, ‘Anpadh’, ‘Dil Tera Deewana’, ‘Do Kaliyan’, ‘Mere Huzoor’, ‘Sanjog’, ‘Parvarish’, ‘Ujaala’. Mala acted with big actors like Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Shammi Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar. Due to her acting, beauty and outspoken style, she became the most famous heroine of the 50s and 70s.
