Let us also tell you here that in this master plan, all the construction work to be done at the airport between 2006 and 2026 was mentioned in a phased manner. The first mention of Terminal One-D came in the Master Plan 2016 which was made public on 22 August 2017, in which it was said to build an integrated terminal by combining One-D and One-C.

According to a senior official associated with Delhi Airport, as per the Master Plan 2006, DIAL was to upgrade Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at Delhi Airport and construct a new runway 29/11 by 2008. The new Terminal 3 was to be constructed by 2010. As per the plan, after the completion of Terminal 3, international flights from Terminal 2 and premium domestic flights from Terminal 1 were to be shifted to Terminal 3. Apart from this, low-cost domestic flights were also to be shifted from Terminal 1 after some time.

A senior official associated with Delhi Airport said that in 2008, the construction of Terminal One-D was suddenly started between Terminal One-A and Old Udaan Bhawan. It was said at that time about Terminal One-D that since Terminal Three is taking time to come up and the number of passengers is increasing at a much faster rate than expected, a temporary terminal is being constructed as Terminal One-D. As soon as all flights are shifted from Terminal One, the temporary Terminal One-D will be demolished. This work was to be completed by 2016.

By 2016, DIAL’s intentions had almost completely changed, which was revealed after DIAL’s new Master Plan 2016 was released on 22 August 2017.
