Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday slammed Pakistan for incidents related to attacks on minorities and said that the country could not change a “hardcore and big mentality” of a neighbor.
The minister told Parliament that former Prime Minister and Congress leader Indira Gandhi also cannot succeed in changing the mindset of Pakistan. Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Jaishankar said that New Delhi is “tracking the treatment of minorities in Pakistan very closely” and is “well known its condition”.
Responding to a supplementary query during the question hour, Jaishankar pointed to 10 incidents related to attacks on Hindus in Pakistan in February. Seven of these incidents related to kidnapping and forced conversion, two other cases related to kidnapping, and one which had “police action” against students celebrating Holi, said the Foreign Minister.
‘Atrocities against Sikhs in Pakistan’
He informed the House that there were three cases related to atrocities against members of the Sikh community. In one case, a Sikh family was attacked; In another case, a Sikh family was threatened to reopen an old gurudwara, and yet another case included the kidnapping and conversion of a girl from the Sikh community, the minister said.
He said that two other cases included members of the Ahmadiyya community and another case in which a Christian person of unstable mind was accused of blasphemy.
Jaishankar said that India also takes such cases at the international level as well.

Responding to a query on whether India is planning a “tough action” on the lines of the earlier Prime Minister Indira Gandhi against Pakistan, Jaishankar said that New Delhi is making its position “well known”, but “we as a government and as a country cannot change the staunch and big mindset of a neighbor.”
