The Education Ministry on Wednesday organized a program titled ‘Nature Swachhta, Sanskar Swachhta’ as part of the cleanliness drive at Sri Venkateswara College (SVC), Delhi University, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Secretary, Higher Education Department, Ministry of Education, K. Sanjay Murthy participated in ‘Swabhav Swachhta, Sanskar Swachhta’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The program was organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS).

Additional Secretary Sunil Kumar Baranwal, Joint Secretary Neeta Prasad, Joint Secretary Ekram Rizvi, Joint Secretary Reena Sonowal Kauli, Chaitanya Prasad, officials of the Ministry, along with Professor V Ravi, Principal of SVC; Professor K Chandramani, Vice-Principal, SVC and other faculty members were also present at the event.
Of. Sanjay Murthy and other dignitaries planted five trees in the college campus under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign. He also participated in cleaning a black spot/Sanitation Target Unit (CTU) near Satyaniketan Bus Stand near the college.
NSS members, NSS volunteers from the college, RWA representatives, social workers and MCD staff joined in to thoroughly clean the place.
The Secretary urged the local people to maintain the cleanliness of this place in future also and also ensured the help of the college in this regard if needed. He also inspired the students to participate in cleanliness campaigns in future. He also answered their questions regarding the National Education Policy 2020. The students shared their experiences and learning while working in NSS.
Swachhta Abhiyaan is a nationwide campaign to promote sanitation and hygiene and eliminate open defecation in India. The campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 October 2014.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the citizens of the country for their participation and said, “On this important day, projects related to cleanliness 10,000 crore has also been started. Under Mission Amrit, water and sewage treatment plants will be built in many cities of the country, be it the work related to Namami Gange or the Govardhan plant that produces biogas from waste. These works will take the Swachh Bharat Mission to new heights.”
Today, on completion of ten years of the cleanliness campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated and participated in the cleanliness campaign with school children. PM Modi urged the citizens of India to participate in the cleanliness initiative to further strengthen the spirit of ‘Swachh Bharat’.
Today, with the 155th Gandhi Jayanti, Swachh Bharat Mission marks 10 years of the launch of one of the most important mass movements for cleanliness.
On 15 August 2014, PM Modi delivered a powerful message from the ramparts of the Red Fort, calling for making cleanliness a national priority and urging citizens to join the mission. This resulted in the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014, which adopted a ‘whole-of-government’ approach to make cleanliness the responsibility of all.
