dandy. The famous Jeshtha Gaurnath temple of Banka district and the area around it are being developed. The temple committee and 56 mauzas are getting this construction work done for the convenience of the devotees. Although devotees come here throughout the year, the crowd is more during the month of Saavan. It is said that the Shivling here is the first Shivling on earth.
Baba Jeshtha Gaurnath Mahadev Temple, located in the picturesque valleys of the mountains just 13 kilometers away from the Amarpur block headquarters of Banka district, is a unique confluence of Shiva and Shakti. Since ancient times, people from far off places including the nearby villagers come here to pay obeisance. The construction work of Shivganga has been started at a cost of one crore in the Chanan river located to the east of the temple complex. Stairs, platforms, sitting places, chairs, lights, changing rooms, gardening and all around are being made in Shivganga for the tourists here.

Temple committee president Durga Singh says that this temple is situated in the picturesque valleys of the mountains. Therefore, it is considered a religious tourist destination. To make this place more beautiful and attractive, the temple committee and 56 mauzas are getting this work done.
The shepherd had seen the Shivling
According to beliefs, this is the first Shivling on earth. Therefore, it is known as Jyeshtha Gaurnath Shivling. During the reign of the Gaur dynasty, a cowherd who went to graze his cows first saw this Shivling. After that, the king of the Gaur dynasty got this temple constructed and since then it is known as Jyeshtha Gaurnath Mahadev Temple.
Crowd in Shravani fair
Every Monday, during the Shravani fair, lakhs of devotees fill water from Sultanganj and offer it to Jyeshtha Gaurnath Mahadev. After the worship is over, the devotees also worship Karna Chita Bhoomi and Maa Dakshineshwari Kali with full devotion. Every year, during the month of Sawan, lakhs of devotees come here on foot, carrying water from Uttar Vahini and offer prayers.
