Earthquake News Today: People in Japan got scared when the earth suddenly started shaking. A strong earthquake was felt in the south-western part of Japan. The intensity of the earthquake has been measured at 6.9 on the Richter scale. Tsunami warning has also been issued for some parts. The intensity of the earthquake was so high that the population of about 12 crore people there was in danger.
Japan’s local weather agency said a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Japan on Monday, prompting a tsunami warning for Miyazaki and Kochi prefectures. At 9:19 pm local time, the Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake in part of Miyazaki Prefecture measured less than 7 on the Japanese seismic scale.
After the earthquake, trains were stopped at Miyazaki Station, due to which passengers were stranded there for a long time. A tsunami warning was issued for Miyazaki Prefecture on the southwestern island of Kyushu, as well as nearby Kochi Prefecture, shortly after the quake struck at 9:19 p.m. local time, according to the agency. Later the tsunami warning was withdrawn.
Agency official Shigeki Aoki told reporters that people have been asked to remain alert in view of more earthquakes in the next week, especially in the next two or three days. The meteorological agency said that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 30 kilometers, due to which the entire area of the south-western main island of Kyushu shook.
Due to its location on the ‘Ring of Fire’, which is extremely sensitive to earthquakes, tremors are often felt in Japan. Public broadcaster NHK TV said waves up to one meter high occurred within 30 minutes of the earthquake. According to the report, waves of 20 cm were reported at Miyazaki port. The traffic appeared normal in the footage of ‘NHK’. Power supply is also normal. There was no threat to nuclear plants either.
