The University of Delhi (DU) is considering the proposal to eliminate direct voting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections – a system that has been for decades as well as often in the headlines for this drama. Last year, elections investigated the Delhi High Court, which led to an unprecedented delay in counting of votes. In a meeting last Thursday, the new voting proposal was placed, preventing any progress on starting a new two-level selection process. Is this the end of the road for this case? LS Chaudhary, a member of the Executive Committee (EC) of the Delhi University Court (EC), says LS Chaudhary, “EC has not taken any decision yet.” “The matter was postponed in the meeting, but it will be discussed in the upcoming sessions,” he said.
Meanwhile, DU students are divided on whether the new system will eliminate “hooliganism” during the election campaign, or curb the “democracy” in the campus.
Dusu election = hooliganism
Students of Shivani, BCom (Honors) at Ramjas College say: “Gundagardi in Du should end. Over the years, being one of the major causes of chaos in the DUSU election premises, he has moved from a democratic process. Indeed, fellow seeks for increasing problems of insult to students and large -scale damage to public and private property. ,
Rohit Khanna, BA (Honors) students at Dile Singh College, say: “It is tragic, but Dusu elections have made rude behavior normal. It paints us, DU students in such a negative light that people across India think that this is our political ideology … If only we operated these elections with more discipline and respect, we would not debate the need for a new system of voting. ,
Voting cannot be only about some people
Akashdeep Sharma, a BCom (Honors) student at PGDAV College, says: “This proposed model is less effective than direct elections. This indirect model of voting will obstruct the ability of the students and create a hindrance between them and their leaders. DUSU representatives are selected by students and each student should have the right to vote! If voting is limited to some people, how will democracy flourish? ,
Tamanana Ali, BA (Honors) Political Science students at Laxmibai College say: “This proposal, if implemented, will lead to prejudice and manipulation in how Dashu becomes. If the decision is left for only something, what is the surety that they will not have the positions that are already bent towards a specific student body? This would be an injustice for the opinion of innumerable DU students. ,

Some political leaders who were elected DUSU president:
Sudheshu Mittal- 1981 to 82
Ajay Maken- 1985 to 86
Rekha Gupta – 1996 to 1997
Nupur Sharma- 2008 to 2009
