Indian President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended Vijayadashami wishes.

“On the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all Indians in India and abroad,” President Murmu wrote in a post on Twitter.

PM Modi said, “Happy Vijayadashami to the countrymen.” With the blessings of Maa Durga and Lord Shri Ram, I wish that you all achieve victory in every sphere of life.

Meanwhile, President Murmu and PM Modi will attend the Dussehra program organized by Shri Dharmik Leela Committee in Delhi on Saturday.

Dheeraj Dhar Gupta, general secretary of Shri Dharmic Leela Committee, said, “The program will start tomorrow at 5.30 pm. Both the President and the Prime Minister are coming. All three effigies will be burnt tomorrow on the occasion of Dussehra.”

He further said that Ramlila is being organized for the last 8 to 10 days.

“This is our 101st year. All the programs were organized very well. Police officials helped us manage the programme. Normally, the height of Ravana is 70 feet. In view of the Prime Minister attending the program yesterday Security has been beefed up. The Special Protection Group (SPG) is taking care of the security of tomorrow’s event.”

Speaking to ANI, organizing committee chairman Rajesh Gehlot said, “As we can see, sins are increasing in the society so this effigy is depicting the increasing sins and we will burn them all on Dussehra i.e. on October 12 ” , 2024. We have invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the ceremony and we are hopeful of a positive reply. We have also sent invitations to other BJP leaders.

‘Vijayadashami’ or ‘Dussehra’ is celebrated to symbolize the victory of good over evil. It is believed that on this day Lord Rama had killed Ravana and with this belief the culture of burning effigies of Ravana started.

The Hindu festival Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsav or Sharadotsav, is an annual celebration honoring Goddess Durga and celebrating her victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.

During these nine days, people engage in ritualistic fasting, reciting shlokas dedicated to each goddess, wearing new attire, making offerings and cleaning their homes. In their prayers, they seek the blessings of the Goddess for a prosperous, joyful and fulfilling life.
