Due to the severe cold wave, the closure of all schools from classes 1 to 8 in Ghaziabad has been extended from January 11 to 18. Minimum temperatures are currently occurring in many cities of UP.

In view of the severe cold wave in Ghaziabad, the district administration has extended the closure of all schools for students of classes 1 to 8. Schools will now remain closed till January 18 to protect students from extreme weather conditions.
“In view of the extreme cold weather prevailing in the district for the last few days, as per the instructions given by the District Magistrate, Ghaziabad, all schools affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Board, CBSE, ICSE and other boards for classes 1 through 2 8 in Ghaziabad district will remain completely closed for students till January 18, 2025,” Ghaziabad DM Inder Vikram Singh said in a notice.
“Therefore, all Principals/Headmasters of schools affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Board, CBSE, ICSE and other boards are directed to ensure strict compliance with the above orders.”

Earlier, schools were closed in Ghaziabad from January 6 to 11 due to inclement weather conditions. Many cities of Uttar Pradesh, including the state capital, are witnessing a drop in day temperatures due to cloudy sky and fog due to moisture coming from the Arabian Sea. The weather in the state is dry, with some areas feeling cold during the day, while some places are experiencing extreme cold.
Many districts and states have announced closure of schools or extension of winter holidays amid the severe drop in temperature and severe cold wave. Delhi government announced winter vacation for all government schools from January 1 to 15, 2025.
Lucknow has closed schools till January 11, 2025, and directed schools to conduct online sessions for classes 9 to 12. Winter vacation has been announced in Haryana schools till January 15 and classes are scheduled to resume on January 16, 2025.
All schools up to class 8th in Noida are closed till further notice. Due to severe cold wave conditions, classes up to class 8 have been suspended till January 12 in Araria district of Bihar. However, classes for students of classes 9 to 12 will continue from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Chandigarh has extended the winter vacation for schools in the Union Territory till January 11, 2025. Government and private schools will remain closed till January 11 and will reopen on January 13, 2025.
