Warning signs of dehydration that everyone ignores – Dr. Shriram Nene tells the truth.
We often talk about keeping our skin and body hydrated and Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit Nene’s doctor husband also stresses on this. He released a viral video alerting people about 6 signs that indicate you are dehydrated. Proper hydration is a must for healthy and glowing skin, but achieving optimal hydration is not that easy or simple and requires a comprehensive approach that addresses both internal and external influences.
Hydration Alert:
According to the World Health Organisation, dehydration is a condition caused by excessive water loss in the body and is a condition in which your body is unable to get the required amount of water. During the summer months, we are not able to maintain our hydration status due to various reasons, which means we may end up losing more fluids than we are taking in and become dehydrated.
Dehydration is classified into mild, moderate and severe, where mild is considered weight loss of up to 5%, moderate weight loss of 5-10% and severe dehydration is weight loss of more than 10%. The three main types of dehydration where sodium levels are low are hypotonic (mainly loss of electrolytes), hypertonic (mainly loss of water) and isotonic (equal loss of water and electrolytes).
Are You Ignoring These 6 Signs of Dehydration?
Dr. Shriram Nene on his social media handle has shared the following 6 signs that indicate that you are dehydrated –
- Dry mouth and skin
- dark urine
- Frequent headaches
- feeling tired
- muscle cramps
- Dizziness
Following proper hydration habits and practices becomes crucial for personal health and wellness, so prioritize clean water consumption for hydration, choose reusable water bottles to promote access to safe drinking water and reduce environmental waste. Another trick is to choose water-efficient foods such as fruits and vegetables with high water content – such as cucumbers, watermelon and oranges that aid in hydration.
Listen to your body’s signals and drink water accordingly. Drink beverages containing electrolytes or water enriched with minerals to increase hydration and replace nutrients lost through sweating.
