To become a doctor in India, you have to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG). Only after this you can also think about adding the title of Doctor before your name. NEET is one of the most important and challenging exams. About 20 lakh candidates appeared in the examination in 2023. If you are preparing for NEET UG 2025 then keep these things in mind.
NEET UG Exam Structure
NEET UG exam is based on 200 multiple choice questions (MCQs) divided across three major subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Out of these, students will have to answer 180 questions. Each subject is divided into two sections – Section A will have 35 compulsory questions and Section B will have 15 optional questions, of which 10 will have to be answered.
Make subject wise preparation strategy
It is important to have a strategy to crack the NEET UG test. Adopting a specific strategy for each subject will help you score well.
– Physics
This is a complex subject for many students. Make sure to memorize the formulas and understand the concept behind them. Pay extra attention to the chapters and give importance to Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Modern Physics. Regular practice will improve problem-solving and speed.
– chemistry
Chemistry is divided into three parts: organic, inorganic and physical. In organic chemistry, focus on reaction mechanisms and numerical. In inorganic chemistry, focus on the periodic table and coordination compounds. Physical chemistry requires a strong understanding of thermodynamics and chemical equilibrium.
– biology
This particular subject has the highest weightage in the examination. Focus on more important things like human physiology, genetics, and ecology. Focus on understanding rather than memorizing.
Role of NCERT
NCERT books are very important for NEET UG preparation. These books are especially used for Biology as almost 90 percent of the questions in the exam will be from this. For Physics and Chemistry, you will have to rely on additional resources. Use NCERT books for strong conceptual foundation.
time management strategies
Apart from preparation, you have to ensure that the paper is completed on time. To do this, you will have to practice at home and come up with time management strategies. Allot only 60 minutes to complete the Physics and Chemistry part and up to 90 minutes for Biology. During this, solve those questions whose answers you completely know and about which you are confident. You can come back to difficult questions later.
