Solar Flare 2025 News: An X5.1 class solar flare erupted on the Sun on Monday, which is the most powerful explosion of 2025. The blast caused R3-level radio blackouts in Africa and Europe and disrupted high-frequency communications. The eruption came from sunspot AR4274, which had also emitted flares on November 9 and 10.

According to NASA and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), an X5.1 class solar flare erupted on the sun’s surface. This is the most powerful explosion of 2025 and is believed to be the largest solar explosion after October 2024. The explosion occurred at approximately 3:30 am Indian time (5 am EST / 10:00 GMT). This explosion came from the Sun’s sunspot called AR4274, which was highly active for the last several days. This flare had a strong impact on the sun-facing side of the Earth, causing radio blackouts in Africa and Europe. The speed of this explosion was also shocking. The CME, which was moving at a speed of 4.4 million miles per hour (about 70 lakh km/hour), is moving directly in the direction of the Earth and is likely to hit late on November 11 or in the morning of November 12.
Destruction coming rapidly towards the earth!
According to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, the X-ray and ultraviolet radiation emitted from this explosion ionized Earth’s upper atmosphere, causing an R3-level radio blackout. High-frequency radio communications came to a complete halt in many countries.
- According to scientists, this is not just an explosion. This is part of the ongoing solar activity sequence from the AR4274 sunspot. Earlier, X1.7 flare was recorded on 9 November and X1.2 flare was recorded on 10 November. Both events were accompanied by powerful Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), which are now moving towards the Earth.
- There is a possibility of a strong geomagnetic storm due to the collision of these three CMEs. NOAA has warned that if all the CMEs hit the Earth simultaneously, a G4 or G5 level storm could form by night. This means phenomena like aurora (northern lights) can be seen in many parts of America, Europe and Asia. And satellite signals or power grid may also be affected.
- The strength of solar flare is divided into A, B, C, M and X classes. The X class is the most powerful, and X5.1 means that this flare was 5 times more powerful than normal X flares.
- Scientists say that this explosion is one of the most energetic phases of Solar Cycle 25. It is clear from the increasing activity of the Sun that we may see even bigger flares in the coming months.
