The Delhi government on Saturday released a detailed admission schedule for entry-level classes for the 2026-27 academic session. The Directorate of Education (DoE) in a notification dated November 22 outlined the specific dates for schools and parents seeking pre-school or nursery admission for their children.
The notification provides the complete timeline of the admission process from uploading the point criteria on the school website to releasing the lists. The admission process will begin on December 4 and end on March 19, 2026.

Parents have to pay the registration fee 25 must apply to the schools of their choice. “Every school shall display the above admission schedule in its Information Board and website… only Rs 25 (non-refundable) may be charged from parents as admission registration fee,” the notification reads.
Age limit for admission to entry level classes
As per the latest notice, the age limit for admission in the upcoming academic session is given below:
Nursery (Kindergarten 1/ Pre School 1): 3+ years to 4 years
KG: 4+ years to 5 years
Class 1: 5+ years to 6 years
“Age relaxation of up to one month for admission in the minimum and upper age limit for these classes can be granted at the level of the Head of the school. Parents can approach the Head/Principal of the school for age relaxation through Manua application. The child must have attained the prescribed minimum age for admission in the academic session 2026-27 by March 31, 2026,” the notification said.
Will schools implement DoE’s updated age criteria?
According to a circular issued on October 24, the foundational stage will include three classes before Class 1 – Nursery (Kindergarten 1/ Pre School 2), Lower KG (Kindergarten 2/ Pre School 2), and Upper KG (Kindergarten 3/ Pre School 3). According to the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the prescribed age of the child as on 31st March for Class 1 is 6+ years to 7 years.
Under the existing structure, there are two classes – Nursery and KG – in the foundational stage. This means that the updated age norms will not be applicable in the upcoming academic session for Class 1. Only age guidelines of NEP will be followed for nursery admission. The age limit for Lower KG and Upper KG has not been specified in the circular, rather both have been placed in one category.
The notice said that the updated age criteria will be implemented in phases from the academic session 2026-27.
Important documents for admission
Parents should pay attention to the documents that will serve as valid proof of address, such as ration card or smart card issued in the name of the parent or domicile certificate of the child or parent, or electricity bill, telephone bill, water bill or passport in the name of the child or parent, or Aadhaar card issued in the name of the parent, or voter ID card of either of the parents.
