Shortly after its release, the Delhi government reversed a directive related to the extension of winter vacation in schools across the national capital. The education department clarified that the previous order, which had extended the winter vacation, was issued in error. It has been canceled immediately, and a decision on the matter will be taken on the morning of January 8.
Delhi Education Directorate said that additional instructions related to winter vacation may be issued in future.
The amended order read, “Order No. DE.23(3)/Sch.Br./2024/18 dated: January 6, 2024, regarding extension of winter vacation is withdrawn with immediate effect. On this matter Further instructions may be given.” Will be released at the appropriate time,” as reported by ANI.
In a previous order, the Delhi government had extended the winter vacations till January 10 for all government-aided and unaided recognized private schools in the National Capital Territory (NCT) citing ‘extreme cold wave and IMD yellow alert’ .
On January 6, Delhi witnessed another day of cloudy and foggy conditions, with the day’s maximum temperature reaching only 15.2 degrees Celsius and the morning minimum temperature reaching 8.9 degrees.
Providing some relief, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a rise in temperatures over the next two days. Additionally, officials noted that light rain is expected on Tuesday due to an incoming western disturbance, and cold day conditions are likely to subside by Sunday.
Meanwhile, parts of Delhi, East Rajasthan, North-West Rajasthan, Haryana and isolated pockets of Punjab experienced cold to severe cold days due to absence of sunlight for prolonged periods. Maximum temperatures over the plains of North India range between 12–18 °C, showing a significant deviation from the normal range for this time of year at various recording stations.
The minimum temperature has dropped to single digit figures in some areas of western Uttar Pradesh. The minimum temperature recorded in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Saturday was 9 degrees Celsius and it is expected to remain between 9 to 13 degrees Celsius in the next six days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave and fog warning for western Uttar Pradesh including Gautam Buddh Nagar.
