The Delhi Education Directorate on Tuesday directed the heads of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to ensure quality education and supportive learning environment for students.
In a circular, the DoE stressed on providing necessary facilities including libraries, computer labs, physical education and remedial classes for those struggling with the syllabus along with regular assessments.
It mentions that students attend morning assemblies, and centers should regularly assess attendance and take timely action against absenteeism. Parents should be informed if students do not come to school repeatedly.

It said the NIOS project branch currently operates 75 study centres, serving 7,794 students enrolled for the 2024-25 academic session.
“All heads of NIOS have been directed to ensure quality education and create a conducive and conducive environment for NIOS project students,” the circular said.
It said that to encourage student achievement, NIOS centers have been directed to display student progress reports on notice boards and award certificates for perfect attendance and academic excellence.
Additionally, teachers are expected to be accountable for student performance. If the results of a teacher do not improve then his services should be terminated.

“If a teacher does not improve his performance, an SCN should be issued to him and he should be asked why his services should not be terminated,” the circular said.
Heads of NIOS centers have also been directed to ensure timely class schedules, adequate infrastructure and clean facilities. It said that in the absence of guest teachers, regular school faculty should be deployed to teach NIOS students for at least three periods a week.
