Uproar, protest and anger are gaining momentum across the country against the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old female PG trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital.
Doctors, residents, students and women’s organisations have come together to demand justice for the victims and their safety in the country. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the issue on August 15.
Amid all these incidents in India, the Uttarakhand police on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 33-year-old nurse who went missing from Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district on July 30.
according to the report AyraNews24x7The victim, a resident of Islamnagar in Gadarpur, worked as a nurse in a private hospital in Nainital. She lived in Bilaspur Colony with her 11-year-old daughter.
On July 31, the victim’s sister filed a missing person’s report at the Rudrapur police station, following which an investigation began. However, the victim’s body was found a week later in an empty plot in Dibdiba area of Uttar Pradesh. It was then sent for post-mortem.
Rape, murder and then loot:
According to reports, the victim was first taken to the bushes where she was raped, then the accused Dharmendra, a resident of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, strangled her to death. He then looted her jewellery and fled from the spot.

The police investigating the case scanned CCTV camera footage to find out the last known whereabouts of the victim, who had come in a tempo from Indra Chowk in Rudrapur. The stolen mobile phone helped the police find out Dharmendra’s whereabouts.
Dharmendra said that he attacked the nurse when she was going inside the Basundhara Apartments on Kashipur Road. Though his intention was only to rob, as soon as he found an empty place, he took her there and raped her, then killed her. He admitted to fleeing the spot after killing the nurse with the money and jewellery in her purse.
Reacting to the incident, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera wrote on Twitter, “What is wrong with us as a country? Right now we are grappling with the inhuman brutality meted out to a lady doctor in Kolkata, followed by her murder, now we have this news of a nurse being raped and brutally murdered in Uttarakhand.”
