Cyber ​​Attacks: India faced 1 crore cyber attacks every day and 5 billion cyber attacks in a year.

New Delhi. Last year i.e. in the year 2023, Indian websites and apps had the highest number of cyber attacks in the world. There were more than 5.14 billion cyber attacks on Indian websites and mobile apps throughout the year. This means that every day more than 1 crore cyber attacks were carried out on India. This information has been given in the report of IndusFace, an application security company funded by TCGF 2 (Tata Capital). According to the report, cyber attacks have increased 10 times on an annual basis. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies in India remain a favorite target of cyber criminals due to the high-value customer data they hold.p

In 2023, 8 out of 10 sites faced targeted bot attacks. These attacks saw an increase of 46% every quarter. In total there were more than 467 million bot attacks. Distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks recorded a 46 percent increase every quarter and the number of these attacks reached 4.25 billion by 2023. DDoS attacks occurred on four out of 10 sites. After Indian websites and apps, there were more cyber attacks on the websites of America, Britain, Russia, Germany and Singapore.

Health sector was the most targeted
Health sector websites and apps were targeted the most. 100 percent of healthcare websites were attacked while 90 percent of banking, finance and insurance websites were cyber attacked. The retail and e-commerce industries were mostly the targets of carding attacks. There were many cyber attacks on websites of sectors like IT services and consulting, manufacturing, telecommunications and advertising. “Along with card cracking or credential stuffing, we have also seen bot-driven, low-rate distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks being used more frequently,” said Ashish Tandon, CEO of IndusFace. Tandon said that the worrying aspect is that more than 39% of enterprises are not confident about their ability to prevent large-scale DDoS attacks.

IndusFace’s Aptrana network prevented 6.8 billion attacks globally. Of these, 5.14 billion attacks were carried out targeting Indian enterprises, SMEs and government organizations. According to the report, an average increase of 63 percent was seen in cyber attacks from the first quarter to the fourth quarter of 2023.
