Chaitra Navratri Navami 2024: On the ninth or last day of Navratri, Maa Siddhidatri, the original form of Goddess Parvati, is worshipped. In Sanskrit, Siddhidatri means one who bestows siddhis or miraculous powers. Sitting on a lotus and riding on a lion, Siddhidatri Mata holds a chakra, conch, trident and mace with her four hands. The goddess is considered to be the creator of the trinity of gods – Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva who entrusted her with the creation, preservation and destruction of the universe respectively. According to ancient texts, Lord Shiva performed intense penance to obtain all the siddhis from the Goddess, after which the Goddess became Shiva’s consort and was transformed into Ardhanarishvara. Eight Siddhis of Siddhidatri
Mother Siddhidatri has eight types of Siddhis – Anima, Mahima, Prapti, Prakamya, Garima, Laghima, Ishitva and Vashitva. It is said that the Goddess bestowed these Siddhis on Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva for performing their duties. He also granted them nine treasures and ten types of supernatural powers.

Puja method for Siddhidatri
- Siddhidatri is worshiped on the ninth day of Navratri. After taking bath and wearing new clothes, worship is done by lighting a ghee lamp and incense sticks.
- For self-purification, self-worship is done by applying tilak on the forehead and drinking some water in the palm. After this, Kalash puja is done and resolution is taken.
- Nine different types of flowers are offered to the goddess. Water is offered at the feet of Mother Siddhidatri and her mantra is chanted. The Goddess is bathed with cow’s milk, honey, ghee, sugar and Panchamrit. Tilak is applied on them.
- After Siddhidatri Aarti, Kanjak puja is performed by inviting nine young girls who are served food of puri, black gram and halwa. These are considered to be the nine incarnations of Mother Durga.
Story of Mother Siddhidatri
Before the creation of the universe, a great darkness covered everything. It was from this primordial darkness that Adi Parashakti appeared as a brilliant, bright light, which illuminated the universe and dispelled the darkness. She took the form of a divine goddess named Mahashakti and created the trinity of gods – Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. All three of them performed severe penance to please the Goddess and in the form of Siddhidatri, she granted them various types of siddhis. He bestowed them with powers in the form of his wives – Goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati and Parvati. Subsequently, gods and goddesses, demons, demons, asuras, gandharvas, yakshas, apsaras, ghosts, heavenly beings, mythological creatures, plants, aquatic, land and sea animals, serpents and garudas, among other species, were created.
