Because India exports Basmati rice and tea leaves to Iran on a large scale. Talking about government figures, India had exported Basmati rice worth $680 million to Iran in the year 2023-24.

This means that India did trade worth about Rs 5,500 crore with Iran. According to a recent estimate, India exports a total of 19 percent of the Basmati rice produced here to Iran. In the wake of this war, Indian businessmen and the government feel that if the war progresses, it will have a direct impact on their business. Along with this, tea is also exported from India to Iran on a large scale.
Tea export also affected, traders incur losses
According to government data, tea worth $32 million was exported to Iran in the year 2023-24. However, after the sanctions imposed by western countries, there has been a continuous decline in tea exports to Iran. In the year 2019, tea worth 200 million dollars was exported to Iran, which gradually decreased to 32 million in the year 2023-24.
May crave sunflower oil
Recently, the government has abolished MEP for the export of Basmati rice, after which India was expecting bumper exports from Iran. India imports sunflower oil from Iran, hence sunflower oil can become expensive in India. In this way, traders of Basmati rice and tea may face problems.
