The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has relaxed the affiliation norms for its schools, allowing them to set up branch schools under the same name and affiliation number, according to officials.
However, both schools will require separate sets of resources in terms of physical and educational infrastructure. The main school will have a spontaneous transition of branch schools and will not be considered new entry as per rules.
While the main school will be allowed to run classes from 6 to 12, branch schools can run classes from pre-primary to grade 5.
CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta said, “Both branches will be managed and owned and both schools will share the same administrative and educational practices. There will be a common website for both branches and the website will clearly have a section dedicated to the branch school.”
“Admission for both branches will be managed by the main school in addition to maintaining accounts of both schools. Branch will be a spontaneous infection of students from school to main school and students will not be considered as new admissions, but students will be promoted to class 6 through natural progress,” he said.
While both schools will need to keep separate teaching and non-teaching employees, the salary will only be distributed by the main school, he said.
Currently, the CBSE branch does not allow schools to open and each school in the same group requires a separate affiliation number.
“The board will communicate with the principal of the main school for all issues, although it is not limited to all issues,” Gupta said.
The criteria for minimum physical infrastructure requirements, safety of students, as well as teachers and pupil ratios will have to separate separately by both branches, he said.
