The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recommended to conduct class 10 board examination twice from academic year 2026. It has published The board said in an official notice that the draft criteria to take class 10 board exams twice a year and the board examination twice a year and it is on the official website for stakeholders and public.
CBSE said, “National Education Policy, 2020 recommended that students will be given an opportunity to improve their performance in board examinations.” Two board examinations are conducted from 2025-2026 for class 10.
Invitated response to draft policy
A draft policy has been developed by CBSE and the response has been invited from all stakeholders. “This draft policy should be hosted on the CBSE website to receive feedback from all stakeholders, IE schools, teachers, parents, students and other (general public etc.). Accordingly, the draft policy is developed after extensive discussion and is available on the CBSE website, cbse.gov.in. Stakeholders can reply to the draft policy till 09.03.2025. The official notice states that the reactions will be investigated and the policy will be finalized.
CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta told AyraNews24x7.com that this is only a draft, which has been published for response from stakeholders. The final decision will be taken only after considering the input of stakeholders.
The board further stated that to avoid the ‘high stake’ aspect of the board examination, all students will be allowed to take class 10 exams for two opportunities during any school year – for one main examination and one improvement.
CBSE Tentative Class 10 Board Exam Schedule 2025-26
As per the schedule released by the board, the first phase of class 10 exam 2026 will be held from February 17 to March 6, and the second phase from 5 to 20 May. A total of 26,60,000 students have registered for the board next year.

“Eligible students in the first examination may be allowed to enter class 11 and based on the result of the second examination, their admission can be finalized. A merit certificate will be issued after the 2 examination. All 5 subjects will be declared as a pass to the students who qualify. In 1 examination, a student who failed to undergo 1 to 5 subjects will be placed under the “Reform Category” and will be allowed to appear in 2 examinations.
