Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday said it has issued show cause notices to 29 schools in Delhi and five other states for alleged enrollment irregularities and failure to meet academic and infrastructure standards. This notice was given after surprise inspection of schools at several places on December 18 and 19, 2024.
CBSE said in an official statement that the inspection revealed violations of CBSE’s affiliation bylaws, particularly with regard to student enrollment practices and non-compliance with academic and infrastructure standards, ANI reported.
The inspection took place on 18 December in Delhi and on 19 December in Bengaluru (Karnataka), Patna (Bihar), Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
“On careful examination of the reports submitted by the inspection teams, it was found that most of these schools had violated CBSE affiliation bye-laws. The major violations identified include enrollment irregularities and non-compliance with academic and infrastructure norms,” the statement read.
Many schools were found to have enrolled more students than their actual attendance records, leading to “non-attendance” enrolment.
Additionally, many schools were found violating CBSE guidelines regarding academic standards and infrastructure. The schools involved have now been issued show cause notices by CBSE, directing them to submit their response within 30 days.
“Each school has been provided a copy of the relevant inspection report and directed to submit its response within 30 days,” the statement said.
“CBSE remains steadfast in its commitment to maintain the highest standards of education and will continue to take strict action against any violation of its rules,” a statement from the board said.
The list of schools to which show cause notices have been issued includes many institutions across the country. In Delhi, schools like Hope Hall Foundation School, Jagriti Public School, Oxford Public School, JN Int School and Nav Jian Deep Public School were among the schools found in violation. Others include SD Memorial Vidya Mandir, Navyug Convent School and CR Oasis Convent School.
Sri Chaitanya Techno School and Narayana Olympiad School were inspected in Bengaluru. Patna’s Satyam International and Eklavya Educational Complex were also found not to conform to CBSE standards. In Varanasi, Raj English School, Happy Model School and St. Casey’s Memorial English School were investigated, while in Ahmedabad, Nirman High School and The New Tulip International School faced similar issues. Both Modern Educational Academy and Intelligent Public School were inspected in Bilaspur.
