Canada News: The situation is becoming increasingly difficult for Indian citizens in Canada. Under the guise of improving the immigration system, cases of forced deportation of Indians have increased rapidly. According to the latest data from Canada’s Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), 1,891 Indians have been deported from the country so far in 2024, and this number is on the verge of surpassing the record of 2024 even before the end of the year.
CBSA report reveals: ‘Deportation’ cases are increasing every year
According to CBSA, 1,891 Indians were deported till July 28, 2024, while in 2023 the number was 1,997. This means that by the end of this year this figure can easily create a new record. In comparison, only 625 Indians were deported in 2019, which has now increased to more than three times. It is clear from the CBSA data that the pace of removal of Indian citizens has been increasing continuously for the last six years.
After India, Mexico, Colombia also in the top list
Among the foreign nationals expelled from Canada, Mexico (2,678 people) is at first place, while India is at second and Colombia (981 people) is at third place. Experts say many Indian students and temporary visa holders are being hit by the crackdown for violating immigration rules, or breaking the terms of work permits.
PM Mark Carney said – action against foreign criminals will be intensified
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney clearly said in a recent event in Toronto that his government is speeding up the process of deporting foreign criminals. “This is part of the larger reforms we are making to the immigration system,” he said, adding that resources will be strengthened and oversight will be improved.
This statement by Carney directly points towards that policy. Under this, Canada is now emphasizing on the removal of ‘at-risk foreign nationals’.
Recent case related to Indian names increased strictness
On October 10, Peel Regional Police (PRP) reported that they had arrested eight people of Indian origin linked to 450 cases of mail theft. A total of 344 charges have been imposed on them. Police said that they are investigating in collaboration with CBSA whether these accused can be deported from the country under legal process. The arrested accused include Sumanpreet Singh, Gurdeep Chattha, Jashandeep Jattana, Harman Singh, Jasanpreet Singh, Manroop Singh, Rajbir Singh and Upinderjit Singh.
