In an Instagram post shared on 11 September, Dr. Sanjay Bhojraj, MD, an interventional cardiologist and functional medicine doctor, highlighted the fact that sweeteners could damage our brain and explained how they cause brain aging. He wrote, “Little swap today. Tomorrow a strong brain.”

Dr. Bhojraj explained, “Most people swap Chinese for artificial sweeteners, assuming that they are safe options. But new research alarm seems to be.”

She cited a neurology study conducted with 12,000+ adults and explained: “Can artificial sweeteners steal from your brain? Researchers visited clear patterns in cognitive health. It is not just about the place of sugar.

The cardiologist warned, “Artificial sweeteners can interrupt metabolism, interfere with intestinal-brain connections, and add long-term stress to their heart and cognitive systems. Today it feels like a safe alternative that the decline may fall tomorrow.”

Additionally, he highlighted many facts related to sweetness that prove that they are harmful to the brain. The expert here said:

  • High sweetener intake was associated with 62 percent rapid cognitive decline
  • Equal to 1.6 years of aging of quick brain
  • The strongest effect on people under 60 and people with diabetes

He said, “Good news? Longevity is not about luck – it is about taking smart decisions on science basis, not shortcuts.”
