A recent study has revealed that a related number of individual care products includes formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. While this chemical is associated with cancer, it is usually added to products such as shampoo, lotion, body soap and Barauni glue, as well as patrons that release it to prolong their shelf life.
A recent study published in environmental science and toxic science letters suggests that more than half of women of black and latina use individual care products, with formaldehyde-reliefs chemicals. This research underlines the fact that cancer -causing chemicals are present only in beauty products beyond the hair straightener. What did the study found
The study conducted with 70 black and Latina women in Los Angeles revealed worrying conclusions about personal care products they use. Through a dedicated app, the participants presented the images of the component label, and the results showed that 53% of them used at least one product in which with formaldehyde-immunizing chemicals, many of which were used daily or several times a week. Carcinogen was found in the survey in 58% of haircare products, but also in various shampoos, lotions, body soaps and baruni shine.

Research published in Peer-routine Environmental Science and Technology Letters has highlighted the presence of formaldehyde and formaldehyde-immunity in beauty items marketed for these demographics. Carcinogenes are recognized by these substances, which increase significant health concerns.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has first flagged off Formladehyde as “inappropriate risk of injury to human health”. While pre -research has focused on its appearance in hair straightening products, which affect black women and women of color, it makes the latest study realm wider, which reveals formaldehyde in a broad array of personal care products.
What health experts recommend
The lead author of the study, Dr. Robin Dodson expressed serious concern about health risks, stating, “These chemicals are in the products that we use all the time, in our body. Repeated exposure such as we can add and cause serious disadvantages.” He also stated that consumers have difficulty identifying products containing formaldehyde, as many preservatives have been listed under complex names that clearly do not mention “formaldihyde”. DMDM Hydantoin is to see such a preservative.
Although several American states and the European Union have imposed or proposed on formaldehyde, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suggested nationwide ban in 2023, although no concrete action has been taken so far. Dr. Dodson advocates a more comprehensive solution, saying, “Ideally, companies should not place these chemicals in products in the first place.”
