What is a cervical headache?

A cervical headache is a type of headache that begins in the neck and radiates the head. Unlike primary headache such as migraine or stress headaches, cervical headaches are secondary, meaning that they arise from another medical issue, in particular, problems in the cervical spine (neck).

“With a cervical headache, the pain in your head arises from the sowing structures or soft tissues in your neck. It is a type of secondary headache, a headache due to an underlying problem in your neck,” Dr. Explains for Goyal’s health shots.

In many cases, it is a form of referenced pain, where the real problem lies in one part of the body, but discomfort is felt elsewhere. Therefore, while the pain may feel that it is in your head, the root cause is actually your neck.

What are the symptoms of cervical headache?

Cervical headache often begins with hardness or stiffness in the neck, followed by pain that spreads behind the head, also temples or behind the eyes. “This pain can be severe to moderate, but it will not be extremely painful,” Dr. Goyal says. You can also experience:

  • Dizziness
  • Blurred vision
  • Limited limit in neck

Headache may deteriorate with some neck movements or when pressure is applied at the base of the skull. These symptoms can be easily ignored or wrong for migraine or stress headaches, which makes awareness and proper diagnosis all more important.

Is the only cause of poor asana cervical headache?

Poor posture is a major contributor, but not only one. Slapping prolonged slaps on a desk, laptop or phone can cause the neck and upper spine. However, other factors include:

How to manage or treat cervical headache at home?

Light cases of cervical headache can often be managed with simple, home treatment:

  • Hot compressed: This can help loosen tight muscles.
  • Gentle Stretching: It improves flexibility and reduces hardness.
  • Proper posture: Sit straight and use a pillow that supports the neck well.
  • Repeated break: Avoid sitting for a very long time. Instead, get up and regular stretch.
  • Over-the-counter pain reliever: OTC can help relief from pain, but only for short -term use. Always consult a doctor before consuming any pain reliever.
  • physical therapy: A daily exercise scheme from a physiotherapist can strengthen the neck muscles and prevent recurrence.

Remember that frequent pain should never be ignored, and only relying on painkillers without addressing the underlying issue can only offer temporary relief.
