Can narcissism and sadism increase sex drive and porn use? study the answers

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of British Columbia states that deep personality traits are related to sexual desires. Studies show that two specific personality traits have a tendency to increase sex drive and pornography use. The two traits are narcissism and everyday sadism. Increased consumption of pornography and high sex drive are associated with these personality traits.

Narcissism:

Narcissism is associated with a sense of superiority and a lack of empathy towards others. Narcissistic people also need constant attention.

Machiavellianism:

Machiavellianism is associated with an increased tendency to manipulate someone for personal gain.

Psychopath:

This characteristic includes a lack of guilt, increased risk of antisocial behavior, and impulsivity.

Everyday Sadism:

Everyday sadism refers to the quality of deriving pleasure from causing harm or discomfort to others.

Earlier studies had reported a direct relationship between these four personality traits and sexual behavior. While psychopathy was thought to have a major influence on sexual behavior, it is surprising to uncover that narcissism and everyday sadism actually play a more prominent role.

The study was conducted at two different universities, with 701 people participating in the first part of the survey. They were asked to fill out a questionnaire to determine their personality traits. They were then asked to rate their sexual desire and determine the amount of their pornography consumption.

The second part of the study involved 400 participants. 196 participants were tested again after five months. The second part of the study also included a question on romantic relationship status to determine self-reported sex drive.

learning outcome:

The study revealed that sadism and narcissism play a huge role in determining a person’s sex drive and pornography use. However, Machiavellianism and psychopathy showed little or no correlation with sex drive. It was also observed that men scored higher than women in deep personality traits and sex drive.
