The summer heat is bad news for your hair as your lush hair loses moisture and becomes dry and brittle. Also, hair problems like dandruff can add to the discomfort of the scorching heat. It is important to take care of your hair during summers by nourishing and moisturising it. An age-old Ayurvedic remedy to get back the lost shine of your hair is to mix buttermilk and triphala churna together and soak it overnight. This DIY remedy not only helps in keeping your hair smooth and shiny, but also strengthens them from the roots. Apart from thoroughly cleaning the scalp, it also prevents premature greying of hair. The lactic acid in buttermilk is a mild alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that helps exfoliate the scalp and remove dead skin cells. It also strengthens your hair.
Triphala powder is a popular ingredient for hair masks, as it contains the properties of three wonderful herbs – Haritaki, Bibhitaki and Amla – in equal proportions.
Ayurveda expert Dr Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya said in her latest Instagram post, “This recipe of takara (buttermilk) has helped many of my patients deal with hair problems like dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and eczema. It can also be used by people who do not have any hair problems to occasionally cleanse their scalp and maintain or improve the health of their hair.”
