South China Sea: The Philippines has started strengthening its defense relations with Taiwan amidst China’s aggression in the South China Sea. Shared patrolling and military activities have been observed between the two countries.

Philippines friendship with Taiwan
The Philippines has now decided to befriend Taiwan to compete with China. The Philippines has now come out openly about Taiwan. According to the Taipei Times report, this strategy of the Philippines is a result of deep concern about instability in the field. The Philippines Defense Minister Gilbert Tyodoro said in an interview recently, “It will have to be cheated yourself that Taiwan’s safety will not have any effect on us.” His statement clearly shows that Manila is now changing her strategy about Taiwan, although officially she still recognizes Beijing under a China policy.

According to the Taipei Times, defense cooperation with Taiwan by the Philippines has moved beyond the level expressed publicly. The old ban on military and academic relations with Taiwan has been loosened under the new policy of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Earlier this year, academics associated with the Philippines Defense Institutes participated in strategic deliberations with the top generals of Taiwan.
