The Congress on Tuesday filed a formal complaint against the BJP, alleging that it was trying to tarnish the image of the opposition party by using cropped and distorted videos in its advertising campaign. The grand old party further said that the BJP is maliciously trying to link the Congress campaign to billionaire financier George Soros.
A delegation of party leaders, including Salman Khurshid, Pawan Khera and Gurdeep Sappal, met the Election Commission on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum of their complaints. He urged the Election Commission to take immediate action against the writers and issue recall instructions.
Speaking about it later, AICC general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said, “The party lodged a complaint against the malicious use of repeatedly cropped and distorted videos by the BJP to defame the Congress. A request was made to take immediate action against him.” This low-level operation, as well as issue instructions to withdraw it.”
“The Congress party lodged a complaint against the BJP’s malicious attempts to link the Congress campaign to George Soros,” Ramesh said.
“This complaint also covers other examples of false propaganda that also target the Congress. These materials are not only patently false, but also malicious and intentionally defamatory. A complaint has been filed against the authors of this low-level campaign from the ECI. It was requested to take immediate action, as well as issue instructions to withdraw it,” he said in a post on Twitter.
The opposition party has also complained against alleged violations of the model code of conduct for elections in Andhra Pradesh, where assembly and Lok Sabha elections are held simultaneously. It claimed that posters and advertisements of state schemes still have photographs of the state chief minister.
He said, Congress presented its stand that no welfare beneficiaries should be deprived of their benefits during the elections in the state of Andhra Pradesh, which was appreciated by the Election Commission.
