Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday hit back at Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal for alleging that BJP had offered seven AAP MLAs. 25 crores, and a ticket to contest elections to change sides. The BJP rejected the claims as ‘false’ and ‘baseless’. The saffron party also asked CM Kejriwal to provide proof of its claim.
AAP leaders including convenor Arvind Kejriwal alleged that offers were made to seven party MLAs. If they switch sides, each will get Rs 25 crore and a BJP ticket to contest the elections.
Following the allegations, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said Kejriwal should stop “lying” and challenged him to name the MLAs whom the AAP chief claimed were approached by the BJP.
“Kejriwal’s statement reflects his political frustration. He said the BJP wants to break his party’s MLAs. This reflects his mental bankruptcy and a party of 62 MLAs (out of 70 in the Assembly) losing its political ground. How disappointing,” she said.
Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said Chief Minister Kejriwal had made “false allegations to defame the BJP”.
Bidhuri said, “He should provide proof of his statement otherwise he should resign from the post of Chief Minister.” He said that BJP is taking advice from experts for legal action in this matter.
He also claimed that Arvind Kejriwal’s dream of becoming a prominent political leader in the country is falling apart as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity is rising after the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
He said, “BJP is going to win 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, hence AAP is falsely accusing BJP of breaking its MLAs.”
AAP leaders have also alleged that the BJP is conspiring to get Kejriwal arrested in a “fake” liquor scam case and topple his government by ousting AAP MLAs.
Sachdeva said, “People can see that Kejriwal needs an alliance to survive as his political ground has slipped before the Lok Sabha elections. Therefore, he is making such absurd statements so that he can survive politically. “
Delhi BJP secretary Bansuri Swaraj described the claims as “absurd” and said other AAP leaders, including CM Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi minister Atishi, have lost their sanity ahead of their imminent downfall.
He alleged, “Kejriwal has now run out of excuses to avoid ED investigation in the liquor scam, so he has started resorting to lies.”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has so far not appeared in four notices issued by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam in his government.
