Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11 will now come with 3D-printed titanium cases. This step of the company is environment friendly. These have been introduced with durable design.
3D-Printed Titanium Case for Apple Watch.Apple has introduced 100% 3D-printed titanium cases in its new Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Apple Watch Series 11. This means that the exteriors of both watches are now made from recycled titanium powder. Apple says this change saves materials and will help meet the company’s 2030 environmental goals.
Earlier Apple used to make cases by cutting large titanium blocks. Now the company does 3D-printing layer by layer. More than 900 layers are printed to make each case. This requires approximately 50% less titanium than before.
Apple’s engineering team worked for years on alloy, powder, oxygen and laser speed. The company uses 6 laser printers that run continuously. After printing the case is simply cleaned, cut, checked and then assembled.
Savings and environmental benefits
According to Apple, this new method can save more than 400 tons of titanium in 2025. The powder is in very small 50-micron particles, which are strengthened by combining them with a laser.
This step is part of Apple’s carbon neutrality plan. This means that it wants to have less impact on the environment in the coming years.
New possibilities in design
Apple can also create new designs with 3D-printing. For example, some cases have special textures built into them that allow the titanium and plastic parts to bond better and the antenna to work better.
Apple also said that the same recycled titanium powder is now being used in the new USB-C port of iPhone Air. This means that this method can also be used in more Apple products in future.
