BH number plate in the car has many benefits, but who gets it? How to apply? Know here

New Delhi. When you move to a new state or city in India, you often have to re-register your vehicle at the new place and this process definitely causes some trouble. However, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had come out with a solution some time ago to make this process easier. Bharat series number plates, also known as BH number plates. It was launched in the year 2021. Its objective is to make vehicle registration easier for individuals who frequently relocate for work. In such a situation, here we will know about the benefits, eligibility criteria and other details of BH number plates.

BH number plate comes with a unique registration number. It is given to an individual vehicle all over India. With this, vehicle owners can move from one state to another with the same registration number. Apart from this, having BH number plate is also convenient from insurance point of view. Because, car insurance remains unaffected by this. Talking about its format, it has Year of Registration (YY), then BH (Bharat Series), then 4 digit registration number and then XX. This indicates the vehicle category. For example we can see 22BH 9999AA.

As far as the state registration number is concerned, if you change your place, you will have to change the vehicle registration within 12 months of moving to the new state. If you do not do this, you may violate road rules. Due to this your car insurance claim may be rejected. The insurance company may reject the car insurance claim due to non-compliance with road rules. However, you do not have this problem with BH number. Because, you do not have to change the vehicle registration when moving from one place to another. In such a situation, there is no need to worry about car insurance coverage or claim validity.

Who is eligible for BH series number plate and what is the criteria?

• State and Central Government employees.
• Defense personnel.
• Bank employee.
• Administrative Service Employees.
• Employees working in private companies with offices in more than five states or union territories.
• The vehicle should also have Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.
• Road tax will have to be paid for the vehicle.
• This applies only to non-transport vehicles.

• This number plate is valid in the entire country.
• There is no need to re-register the vehicle when moving from one state to another.

How to register for BH series number plate:

• For this, you can login yourself on the vehicle portal of MoRTH. Or you can take help from an authorized automobile dealer.
• If you take help from an automobile dealer then fill Form 20 in the vehicle portal.
• Eligible private sector employees have to fill Form 60. They also have to show employment ID along with work certificate.
• After this the authorities verify the eligibility of the vehicle owner.
• Then the necessary documents have to be submitted.
• After this, after getting approval from RTO for BH number, necessary motor vehicle tax has to be paid.
• Then VAHAN portal generates BH Series registration for your vehicle.
