Bengaluru woman harassed by ‘drunk’ man in Namma Metro, says in viral video, ‘His hand came again…I froze’ today news

A woman alleged that a 46-year-old man harassed her inside the Bengaluru Metro. She said the man usually sat close to her and touched her inappropriately, claiming that after a while she realized what he was doing was not a mistake but “intentional”.

“I was shocked… I got up and I slapped him… He was getting down at the same metro station, so I slapped him again right there. I slapped him so badly that she was crying and begging… And besides, he was even smiling,” she said in a video statement, which has now gone viral.

Viral Video: Woman narrated her ordeal

The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Namma Metro train near the busy Majestic Interchange in central Bengaluru, one of the busiest transit hubs in the city. ndtv Informed.

Police identified the accused as Muttappa. They were quoted as saying that the man was allegedly drunk at the time of the incident and repeatedly bumped into the woman during the journey.

In the viral video, the woman said she was on her way home from work when she encountered the man in the train.

“Everything was normal till half the journey. Everyone was busy in their work and looking at their phones,” he said.

She said she was initially sitting between a man and a woman. The man sitting next to him got down at his station and another passenger took his place.

The woman said the new passenger was sitting “too close”, causing her to feel cramped between two people. She said she tried to adjust her position to make room. But soon she felt that a hand was applying pressure on her body in a way that was causing discomfort.

She said she pushed the woman next to her “a little bit more”, but then the man put his foot next to her… After a few seconds, his hand came back again. Then he realized that it was done intentionally. “This guy is touching me,” she said in the video.

She said, “I was shocked at that moment when I realized that someone was doing this to me on purpose. I was really angry.”

The woman said she decided to take action when she realized that her destination station had arrived and if she remained silent the man could continue harassing others.

When she realized her station was here, she got up and slapped him, she said.

She further added, “I was really angry. I am a reactive person. I react first and then think. As soon as it happened, I froze inside. But, as soon as I realized that my station is here and I am getting down here… I cannot react and this man will have to face the punishment for what he has done and he will do the same to other people in the metro, I decided to take action.”

“I got up and slapped her. I slapped her hard and asked her to get up…I slapped her so hard that she was crying and pleading and besides, he was even smiling,” she said in the video statement.

The woman said, “He was showing a pained expression and then smiling. He was denying and saying something in Kannada, which I couldn’t understand. This person was not opening his mouth and he knew he had done something wrong. He was saying sorry and saying something else.”

He further claimed that the man had been roaming in the metro for the past hour and ‘had been doing so for some time.’ He also said that the accused was drunk.

According to multiple reports, the women said Metro security personnel intervened and took both of them to the Metro office.

She said she continued to insist on calling the police and filing a formal complaint.

Later he lodged a complaint at Upperpet police station. Police said that the incident took place on December 23 at around 7 pm.

A non-cognizable report has been filed under charges of indecent behavior and sexual harassment, police told IANS.

Police have reportedly launched an investigation and are examining the CCTV footage of the metro.
