The free offer of Perplexity Pro AI for Airtel users is no longer the same as before. If you took a 12-month free trial of Perplexity Pro through Airtel, you will now need to add a debit or credit card to continue. Recently many users have received an email from Perplexity, in which it is clearly stated that if they want to continue the free trial, then they will have to update the payment details in their account.
Actually, Perplexity and Airtel together started this offer in July. At that time it was clearly stated that users would not need to add any payment method. Airtel prepaid, postpaid, broadband and DTH users could use Perplexity Pro for free with their mobile number and email ID. But now the company has suddenly changed the rules.
Perplexity says this change has been made to ‘prevent misuse of the free offer’. According to the company, some people were wrongly creating free accounts again and again. For this reason, now all users are being asked to add a valid payment card. However, the company also says that no money will be deducted from your card before the trial ends. If you don’t want a subscription after the trial ends, you can turn off auto-pay.
Why are users getting angry?
Still, many users are unhappy with this change. He says that when the offer was given without any conditions, it is not right to change the rules midway. Some people are also linking it with their privacy, because by adding card details the company gets more information. This is why many users are deciding to end their free trial immediately.
If you want to continue the free trial, the process is easy. Click on the ‘Update card information’ button in the Perplexity email, enter your debit or credit card details and update them. After this you will be able to use Perplexity Pro as before.
Perplexity Pro offers features like GPT-4.1, AI models like Gemini and Claude, unlimited search, document analysis and AI image generation, which is said to be priced around ₹ 17,000. But after this new change, many users may turn to other free AI options like Google Gemini and ChatGPT.
