The Batman spin-off has been postponed forever
In July 2020, a new Arkham Asylum series was announced by Matt Reeves that would focus on the inner workings of Gotham City’s police department. However, in an exclusive report from Variety, Antonio Compoz’s version will not move forward as previously planned.
Compoz was chosen to serve as writer and showrunner for the series. Terence Winter was initially cast as the writer and executive producer of the show, but he left the project in November 2020 due to creative differences. He was succeeded by Joe Barton, but he too soon left the collaboration with Warner Bros.
In an interview with Reeves in 2022, he described the show as “a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham”. However, soon after, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios and announced the launch of rebooted versions of films and television shows in the universe. Gunn also posted several social media posts to confirm the production of the series, with the only difference being that it would not be set in the same world as The Batman Movie.

Will the show restart?
Although the spin-off has been shelved with no production or tentative release date, there is a possibility that the show will be released in the future. Max has a history of releasing shows that were shelved. So fans can expect the show to be renewed in the near future.
However, the DCU is not over yet, fans can look forward to the upcoming DCU projects. Batman fans can look forward to the Penguin series starring Colin Farrell as the supervillain Penguin. The show is set to release in September 2024. Reeves is also working on producing Batman II which will be released in October 2026.
