New Delhi. If you are driving BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel car in Delhi, then you need to be careful now. Now leave these vehicles and make a habit of traveling by public vehicles. Let us tell you that under Phase 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the government has banned old vehicles causing pollution in Delhi and if found running, you will be charged a heavy fine. Actually, the government has banned running of BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel cars in Delhi.
The Department of Transport has also issued a public notice regarding the ban on these vehicles, in which it has been said that in view of the decision of CAQM regarding the increasing pollution in Delhi and under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, BS-3 petrol and BS -4 Running of diesel vehicles is banned till further orders. It has been said in the notice that if any driver is found violating this rule, a fine of Rs 20,000 will be imposed.
What is the reason for banning?
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi reached ‘severe’ category on Sunday amid cold weather. Let us tell you that after the improvement in air quality, GRAP restrictions were lifted in Delhi-NCR from January 1. However, after the air pollution situation became severe again, GRAP restrictions were reimposed from January 14.
Let us tell you that on Sunday morning, AQI was recorded 478 in Anand Vihar, Delhi, 465 in JLN Stadium, 465 in IGI Airport (T3) and 455 in ITO Delhi. The air quality here remained in the serious category.
The car should not be that old
BS-3 petrol i.e. petrol cars registered before April 1, 2010 and BS-4 diesel cars registered before April 2020 are not allowed to run in Delhi. The Transport Department has deployed 114 teams to take action against these vehicles.
These vehicles are out of the ban
However, vehicles deployed for emergency services and vehicles engaged in government work have been kept out of the scope of the ban. A total of five lakh such cars are registered in Delhi, by which people of Delhi and NCR region travel. It will be illegal to drive these cars from today.
